Tour Overview

Spend your day at the Kronshtadt city on the island Kotlin situated on the west of St Petersburg. The Kronshtadt island serves as the main sea gate to the St Petersburg and as its protector for more than 300 years. During the tour you will learn the history of Kronshtadt visit St Nicholas Naval cathedral - the last maritime cathedral in the Russian empire which was abandoned for many years and recently reconstructed. Enjoy its reach byzantine architecture. Afterwards we will visit modern park – the city of forts also dedicated to the Russian fleet. After the lunch we will drive to Kotlin National park and explore the see shore and abandoned fort, here you will be able to learn about the history of Russian fortification. Afterwards we will climb to ornithological tower to see the beautiful panorama of the Gulf of Finland and know about the variety of birds which inhabits this island. The Naval Cathedral was constructed as a unique monument of the Russian Naval history. The interior of the cathedral is dedicated to the sailors who died in the glory of the Motherland the plaques with the are names are installed on the walls of the cathedral. The museum of the Naval Cathedral houses relics associated with the history of ships, naval crews, and heroic deeds of the sailors. It was the only temple in Russia, which every sailor could rightfully consider his own.

The cathedral was designed by prominent Russian architect Vasily Kosyakov. It is built in byzantine style and richly decorated with marble carving. The cathedral, which is about 70 meters high, serves as Kronshtadt dominant and it can easily be seen even from St Petersburg. The cathedral with Anchor square forms magnificent architectural ensemble

The Island of Forts is the modern park located at the South coast of Kronshtadt town. It was opened at 2020 year. The park is dedicated to the glory of the Russian fleet. The park is really lovely and full of monuments and entertainments. The main alley of the park gains the name of Russian Navy heroes. Both sides of the alley there are niches dedicated to the prominent Russian sailors and famous ships.
